S H E

A female warrior
In between battles,
Vulnerable in all the right ways yet protecting the vitals

Bowed before her Lord;
Firm grip on sword -
Weary perhaps but no where near defeated or giving up.

Lots of fight power still within;
Surrounded by a backdrop of green -
Growth, rejuvenation, new beginnings filled with promise;

Head might be bowed
But only in submission
In acknowledgement of her Lord, her source, her worth.

Wielding the Samurai's sword
She defies the odds.
Breaking the norm, she's you, she's me, she's US.

- Dumebi Ogboli (a true friend, an amazing sister)

PS: Hope we get past the partial nudity and appreciate what was seen in this picture :D.

    1. You can say that again, I first saw the pix and was like ... ok, then my friend spoke about what she saw in it and I was just blown away. Talk about perspectives :)

    1. It sure did, like I said to Myne, the picture alone didn't quite do it for me, but with the poem...that was a different story

  5. Wow. The picture came alive as I read the poem. I love both and I've saved the picture. I think it's tasteful.

    1. I think it is too, though my sis tends to disagree. She loves the poem but would have nothing to do with the picture :D

  6. I must give honour to whom honour is due. To the sister who introduced me and opened my eyes to 'she' (as I've fondly nicknamed her), to Iphie. These are her original words...

    Being weary in the fight but hanging on to your sword because you need it and you have to keep fighting.
    She is on her knees, head bent almost in prayer for strength but her sword is upright not laid down.
    Her hand is on the grip. Firm!

    ...we had to stop analysing 'cos the more we looked, the more we saw. I kept looking and passed on what I saw and Miss Jhazmyn has looked and added a few extra lines...indeed she's you, she's me, she's us. Small wonder then why 'she' resonates with a lot of people!

    We're not alone...to you reading this "you're not alone"! This that you face will not overwhelm or drown you. Do not be afraid to pause in-between battle, you need to regain strength...you can be vulnerable before HIM. For the journey will be long and the various battles fierce. I don't mean to freak you out or insinuate constant upheaval or even to revel in the feeling of being constantly up against it but this is life. Know this..."you will make it"!

    So here's to you, to me, to us...and most importantly to the ONE who loves us fiercely and has promised to never leave or forsake!

    Sorry I got carried away :-)!

    Much love...you know who ;-)!

  7. 'SHE' in truth a female warrior, vulnerable in all the right ways....bowed before her Lord. This picture reminds me of who I am meant to be before God.
