Customs and Traditions....this one got me freaked out

This morning, we're driving to the office and D is giving me the low-down on Akin* his childhood friend.

Akin* has been with Dumebi* for close to four years now, in which time, they both left home and re-located to South Africa to live together...and no, they had not yet gotten round to getting married.

Last year, Dumebi gave birth sometime in November and six weeks later she slumped and died...medical results showed that she suffered a stroke and sadly did not survive it.

Now to the freaky part....Akin contacted Dumebi's family with the sad news and informed them that he would be flying down with the corpse to prepare for the burial and in response, he is informed that he would have to first conduct a wedding ceremony and fulfill ALL necessary rites expected of a new groom, including, sleeping in the same room with her corpse on the night of the date set for the wedding ceremony.

After this, he can then proceed to plan for the burial.

So i'm wondering if i'm the only one that finds this really freaky and unneccesary , at worst they could ask for the payment of the bride price and all other material requirement but asking him to sleep with the corpse, i really dont see what this stands to guys pls...i really need to understand this better, what do you think and does someone understand this better than i do?

(shudders at the thought once more)

Thinking right while i wait

I sat in bed and grabbed a book
My thoughts had begun to wander again.
I have these hopes I hold so dear
Tonight, I fear to think on them

Not because I doubt I’d get there
But because my hearts yearns it for now
Yet not my will but His be done
That really is my cause for fear

What if my now is His tomorrow
Like Abraham, who never “saw” descendants like stars?
I don’t want to see just by faith
Like I child, I want to see in the present too.

My friends, they say to me “you doubt”
Believe or He would not heed thy call.
But nay, not doubt, but moments in life
When strongly my desires, pull my heart strings

I read my book, a great one it is.
As tunes of worship from my ipod I hear
I would not let my mind wander far
To places where lies anxiety and unrest.

But safe in the arms of Jesus
Safe on His gentle breast
There by His love o’ershaded
Sweetly my soul shall rest

Philippians 4:8 – 9 (MSG)
Summing it all up, friends, I'd say you'll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious—the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse. Put into practice what you learned from me, what you heard and saw and realized. Do that, and God, who makes everything work together, will work you into his most excellent harmonies.

Isaiah 50:7 (New International Version)
Because the Sovereign LORD helps me,
I will not be disgraced.
Therefore have I set my face like flint,
and I know I will not be put to shame.

PS: When we wait on God, He strengthens us, He blesses us, even while we are still waiting on Him, He builds our faith, He draws us closer to Himself, He shows us things we did not see before when we seek His face, He teaches us to soar above the challenge and like the eagle we soar above the storms....the waiting period is never a wasted matter how long it takes

I'm just loving this song right now...especially the part that says

"Dont give up on God cos He wont give up on you"

Like it doesnt matter whether we feel He is able or not...He just is able.

I hope it gives someone a reason to hold on to faith cos that's exactly what its done for me right now

all about RAT

I'm taking out time from work to out up this post,
well cos its been one of those days,
we pray for more responsibility and to be indispensable
then the responsibilities come, and, well...its has its share of crazy days
and this week, everyday so far has been crazy
so this is me, taking a breather.

I love RAT (no, not the rodent...that's my chosen blog name for my cute adorable nephew and it means Restless Adorable Toddler), he's down with a bad flu now and seeing him yesterday, looking all forlorn and tired, i just wanted to hug all the weakness away, but wait o, in this Lagos heat, I'm wondering where the flu came from.

So sometime last month, we were at my parents' for the holidays, and RAT was playing with his kid bro who is just now 9months old (lets call him TZ for the zohan...cos little as he is, he's tough like, he was pulling him real hard shoving him and honestly, all that was in the spirit of love and play.

"RAT, stop it, ur gonna hurt TZ"

"See aunt Jhaz, he likes it, I'm ben10, and TZ likes ben10...pishaun pishaun (sound of a gun mad by his mouth), see we are killing all of them

"RAT stop it now or i'd smack u"

"u cant catch me" he sings as he begins to run, dragging the crawling TZ along

and then BANG!!!, TZ falls and his head actually makes a bang as it hits the floor

I dont know how fast i sprung to my feet, grabbed up TZ with one arm and landed two good ones on RAT'S behind with the other (not like that kept him silent, 10minutes later, he was running around again, this time with my poor niece, he sure has a thing for

Sometime in the evening, my sister BAB (Brain and beauty) comes in and RAT is sulking in the corner

"Sweetheart, don't i get a hug?"

RAT turn his cute phylosopical eyes to her

"Aunt BAB...i was just playing o and then aunt Jhaz beat me, see now, i'm not even growing well again"

Like...for real? where did he get that one from...and even though we all burst into laughter, the guy stood his grounds, no smile no laugh, looking at all of us as though we were dumb and didn't understand the gravity of what he just said.

I hope he gets better soon, i miss his quick mind and his wit.

Ok, back to work now, i think I've let out enough steam

Have fun people and thank you Patrina, Rita, Zoe and Jaycee, each word and prayer read from your blogs have been like words in due season...God bless y'all
